(aka Forever 13) has been selected as one of the seven first films that will battle it out in Critics’ Week at the 74th Venice International Film Festival, which takes place between 30 August and 9 September.

Berg made Team Hurricane, which will have its world premiere in Venice before the Danish release on 11 September, with cinematographer Louise McLaughlin  and editor Sofie Marie Kristensen, fellow students from the Danish National Film School. They left the school in 2015, after working together on their graduation film, Sia, depicting one day in the life of a 93-year-old woman.

”A punk chick flick about radical girls in an ordinary world" is how Berg describes her experimental teenage drama, which follows eight girls ”who dare to be loud, annoying, vulgar and vulnerable.” It shows important episodes from the summer they spend in a youth club, where they develop a bond that makes each of them flourish.

Berg worked closely with the eight girls, none of whom are professional actresses – Eja Penelope Roepstorff, Ida Glitre, Ira Rønnenfelt, Maja Leth Bang, Mathilde Linnea Daugaard Jensen, Mia My Elise Pedersen, Sara Morling and Zara Munch Bjarnum – and who she found after a long and extensive search on social media.

Supported by the Danish Film Institute, Team Hurricane was made with Danish producer Katja Adomeit of Copenhagen’s Adomeit Film. At Venice it is participating in the $100,000 (€86,000) competition for the festival’s Best Debut Feature.
