The shooting of Dark, Almost Night (Ciemno, prawie noc) started on location in south-western Poland on 21 November. The story revolves around a string of children who go missing, shocking the citizens of the small city of Wałbrzych. The city is visited by a reporter investigating the crime. Unexpectedly, she discovers the horrific events that took place decades ago, but which still cast a shadow over the city. In addition, the journalist has to face up to her own past, and that of her family. 

The script, penned by director Borys Lankosz and Magdalena Lankosz, is based on Joanna Bator’s novel of the same name. The book won a Nike Award, one of the top literary prizes in Poland, in 2013. Dark, Almost Night, which is set to be a crime-thriller, is Lankosz’s third film. , won him the Golden Lions at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia and a FIPRESCI Prize at the Warsaw Film Festival in 2009.

). The film is being produced by Leszek Bodzak and Aneta Hickinbotham through their Warsaw-based company Aurum Film (The Last Family). The co-producers are Odra Film (which runs the Lower Silesian Film Competition for supporting cinematic production), Walter Film Studio, DI Factory and Dreamsound.

The production of the film is expected to be finished in late April 2018. Picture Tree International will handle international sales, and will present the first teaser at the Berlinale's European Film Market. The Polish distributor is Kino Świat, and the local theatrical release is planned for January 2019.
