Tim Palmer, founder of Ignition Film Production and producer of the new Irish feature The Limit Of, has recently secured an international sales agreement with EastWest Distribution, a distribution company based in Vienna. World sales of Alan Mulligan’s debut film will be directly handled by the general manager of the company, Sasha Wieser, who was impressed by the quality of the work after its first screening at the Galway Film Fleadh earlier this year.

The story, entirely penned by the young director Alan Mulligan, focuses on the existence of James Allen (Laurence O’Fuarain), a banker who lives in solitude and looks after his widowed mother Molly (Ally Ni Chiarain). The bank he works for is about to repossess her home, provoking a profound family crisis. Moreover, his colleague Allison (Sarah Carroll) butts heads with James, triggering a spiral of deceit and revenge that leads James to start questioning his whole life and take action.

Palmer describes The Limit Of as heavily influenced by other European features such as Michael Haneke’s Amour [+see also:

and Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive, especially in terms of visual style and directing choices. The producer also took part in the editing process of the film, together with Mulligan and the director of photography Daniel Sorin Balteanu. The editing process took two weeks, which the team spent in a holiday home in Foxford, a small village in County Mayo.

The international sales agreement signed with EastWest opens up important distribution opportunities worldwide for this independent Irish feature.

“We focused in on the heart of the story, which is essentially a very strange love story. The edit quickly started to come together. After that, the original score, the soundtrack, the grade and sound design started to fall into place, and I think Alan’s vision emerged from the material. It’s a very accomplished first feature made on a small budget and everyone who worked on the film did an amazing job,” said Palmer about the production process, which has finally been accomplished, five years after the first draft was written by Mulligan.

The Limit Of will be ready for theatrical release in 2018.
