Just two weeks before it kicks off, the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) has revealed the titles of the films selected to screen in the Hivos Tiger Competition at the 47th edition of the gathering (24 January – 4 February).

As usual, this section trains the spotlight on emerging filmmakers with a bold cinematic voice. Festival director Bero Beyer said, "This year’s Tiger line-up features daring filmmakers who boldly venture into new territories. All of them combine relevant stories and themes – like Israeli/Palestinian relations as seen through the eyes of two lovers, the consequences of the Olympic Games in downtown Rio, or the concept of the imminent end of the world – with outspoken cinematic form.”

Eight films, mostly from outside Europe, presented as world premieres, will vie for the Hivos Tiger Award (including a cash prize of €40,000 to be split between the filmmaker and the producer) and a Special Jury Award (worth €10,000), given out by an international jury of five filmmakers and film professionals. It is worth noting that three of the selected films were supported by the Hubert Bals Fund.
