 was the big winner at the BAFTAs last night, winning five awards, including Best Film and Outstanding British Film, on an absolutely fabulous evening for British talent at the event hosted by Joanna Lumley. Martin McDonagh’s Film4-backed movie also won Best Original Screenplay for McDonagh, Best Leading Actress for Frances McDormand and Best Supporting Actor for Sam Rockwell

, directed by Welsh auteur Rungano Nyoni, won Outstanding Debut. Another popular home winner was Gary Oldman, whose performance in Darkest Hour [+see also:

 was named the best of the year. Joe Wright’s film also scooped Best Hair and Make-up. The public-voted EE Rising Star Award went to the Oscar-nominated star of Get OutDaniel Kaluuya. Best Supporting Actress went to Allison Janney for her turn in the sports drama I, Tonya.

The other big winner of the night was the Venice Golden Lion winner The Shape of Water, which took home three prizes: Guillermo del Toro won for Best Director, composer Alexandre Desplat collected the Best Original Music Award, his third BAFTA win, and the film also snagged Best Production Design.
