, the feature debut by Cecília Felméri, a filmmaker who successfully turned heads with her short films Infinite Minutes (in competition at Locarno in 2011 and screened at the AFI Fest, among other events), The Pills of Happiness (awarded at Cinemed in Montpellier in 2013 as well as at the Transilvania IFF), Cuckoo (2008) and Mathias, Mathias (2010 – an animated documentary that took part in DokLeipzig, among other gatherings).

Spiral will be toplined by Romania’s Bogdan Dumitrache (crowned Best Actor at San Sebastián last year for Pororoca [+see also:

The story, written by the director herself, is in the vein of a psychological drama, with a triangular plot involving a man and two women on the edge of a lake. It digs into the themes of letting go, the repetitive aspects of relationships and how difficult it is to change.

Produced by András Muhi and Mónika Mécs for Inforg - M&M Film, and by Gábor Ferenczy for Spiral Film, Spiral will be co-produced by Oana Giurgiu for Romanian outfit Hai-Hui Entertainment, and will enjoy support from the Hungarian Film Fund, the Romanian National Film Center and Eurimages. The shoot will take place between May 2018 and February 2019 in Sződliget, with György Réder serving as DoP.

Inforg - M&M Film recently produced On Body and Soul by Ildiko Enyedi (Golden Bear at Berlin last year and nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign-language Film in 2018) and will also be on board the director’s upcoming film, The Story of My Wife (see the news).
