Lumière for arthouse cinema
by Marie-France Dupagne
23/07/2003 - Film producers Jan De Clercq and Alexander Vandeputte and exhibitors (they own the Lumière Cinema in Bruges) have entered the Belgian theatrical distribution arena with a company called Lumière. One of their most recent productions, Meisje directed by Dorothée van den Berghe, is doing good business at the domestic box office right now.
This is a return to the two business partners’ professional roots since De Clercq is a former employee of Cinéart and Vandeputte worked for Classic Films.
Lumière will begin by releasing three features: The Angel on the Right by Djamshed Usmonov (co-produced by Tadzikistan, Italy, Switzerland and France), La Meglio Gioventù by Italy’s Marco Tullio Giordana and Mille Mois by Faouzi Bensaidi (co-produced by France, Belgium and Morocco).
