The programme for the 9th edition of Bif&st - Bari International Film Festival has been announced. The event is due to take place from 21 to 28 April at the prestigious Teatro Petruzzelli and will be opened by Roman J. Israel, Esq. by Dan Gilroy starring Denzel Washington and Colin Farrell, which will be followed by Unsane by Steven Soderbergh, The Reports on Sarah and Saleem [+see also:

The festival’s International Panorama section – conceived and directed by Felice Laudadio and chaired by Margarethe von Trotta – will include 12 films from all over the world in competition. A jury of 30 viewers – presided over by the writer Gianluca Carofiglio – will be awarding the three Bif&st International prizes for Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress. The ever-popular cinema lectures will be given by Pierfrancesco Favino (Saturday, 21 April), Micaela Ramazzotti (Monday 23), Antonio Albanese (Tuesday 24), Mario Martone (Wednesday 25), Margarethe von Trotta (Thursday 26), Vittorio Storaro (Friday 27) and  Bernardo Bertolucci (Saturday 28). Di Bertolucci is also due to close Bi&st on Saturday 28 April with a restored version of Last Tango in Paris from the Cineteca Nazionale del Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, which will be screened in the presence of the director.

There will also be two retrospectives at Bif&st 2018: the first, in collaboration with CSC-Cineteca Nazionale, is dedicated to Marco Ferreri and will include feature films, short films, documentaries, TV films, and documentaries about the director and will also include a large photography exhibition created in collaboration with the Cineteca Nazionale. The second exhibition is dedicated to the producer Franco Cristaldi, with films and discussions in the presence of directors such as Giuseppe Tornatore, as well as actresses, actors and critics. On 22 April there will be a tribute to Armando Trovajoli at the Teatro Petruzzelli called Armando Trovajoli – the music between theatre and cinema.
