Visions du Réel reveals its industry award winners

- Awards for documentary projects have gone to Italy, Serbia and Chile, and three films from the Opening Scenes programme have been picked up for broadcasting

Visions du Réel reveals its industry award winners

Visions du Réel, Switzerland's most important documentary event and one of Europe's most highly respected documentary film festivals, announced the winners of its industry awards last night.

The visions sud est Award, worth CHF 10,000 and intended to reward one of the five projects taking part in this year's Focus dedicated to Serbia, went to Mladen Kovacevic's Merry Christmas, Yiwu. Kovacevic's latest film, 4 Years in 10 Minutes [+see also:

, also had its world premiere in the festival's official programme.

by Nazareno Manuel Nicoletti received the Raggio Verde Subtitling Award for the best Rough Cut Lab project. 

The Chilean-Colombian co-production Lemebel by Joanna Reposi won the Alphapanda Audience Engagement Award for a project in the Docs in Progress section with great potential to engage audiences through online activities, consisting of a six-month social-media campaign. 

In the festival's Opening Scenes section for first short films or student shorts, the Prize of the Meta Cultural Foundation, consisting of a residency in Slon, Romania, was awarded to Portuguese filmmaker Laura MarquesCows and Queens. 

The Tënk Award, consisting of the purchase of broadcasting rights for three films from Opening Scenes, went to June Balthazard's La Rivière Tanier (France), Andreas Muggli's Hamama & Caluna (Switzerland) and Sissel Morell DargisPlastic.
