Principal photography has started on Cordelia, a British psychological drama that will shoot at Twickenham Studios over the course of five weeks. Written by director Adrian Shergold and actress Antonia Campbell-Hughes, the film will star Campbell-Hughes as the eponymous central character. The film is produced by Kevin Proctor for Studio POW. Sally Hawkins, the Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated star of The Shape of Water, will receive her first executive producer credit for the film, alongside industry veteran Georgina Lowe. Production partners include Kodak and Twickenham Studios.

The action is set over the course of a single weekend. Cordelia lives in a basement flat with her twin sister, Caroline, and her sister’s new boyfriend, Matt. When Caroline and Matt depart for a weekend break, Cordelia is left to cope with her mysterious neighbours, a haunting cello player and an eccentric old man, not to mention all the mice and a stalker to boot. But she is mostly haunted by her own memories of a traumatic event that occurred as she was travelling across London a dozen years earlier as a promising young actress.

As writer-director Shergold explained, “Antonia and I wanted to explore one weekend in this character’s life, where everything starts to implode for her: Did this happen? Is this weekend real? Or is it a figment of Cordelia’s imagination…?”

Studio POW founder Kevin Proctor, also the producer of Cordelia, previously worked with director Shergold on Funny Cow [+see also:

, which is currently being distributed in the UK by EOne. “While working with Adrian on Funny Cow, we decided that our next collaboration would be something distinctly different. Adrian and Antonia have written a unique story with a tone and a vision that keeps audiences on the edge of their seat.”
