After The Ortlieb Woman in 1979 and The Distant Land starring Michel Piccoli and Bulle Ogier in 1987, Luc Bondy’s third feature length film is from an original screenplay written by Philippe Djian whose novels have been adapted for cinema by directors like Yves Boisset (Bleu comme l'enfer) and Jean Jacques Beneix (37°2 le matin). The film was first called "Ton humeur de chien", then it was changed to "Jalousies", before ending up with Ne fais pas ça. It’s the story of Nicole, a young woman who is fleeing from a violent husband, who finds refuge with her parents. It’s a new generation marital drama which brings the stormy relationship of the older couple to the forefront.
Apart from the two main producers of the film, there is also collaboration on the production from Film par Film, Films du Losange, Arte France Cinéma and Rhône-Alpes Cinéma, the region where the filming is taking place. In addition there’s funding worth €600,000 from the French-German commission set up to help co-productions.
