All awards lead to Rome

- Now it is up to the European Film Academy to decide on the nominations. Award will bestow its honors in December in Italy

The heat is on in the competition for the coveted European Film Awards. Thirty films were brought to the attention of the European Film Academy by the June 9th deadline set for the presentation of nominations for the award. The titles that made it through the first round of eliminations were selected by European institutions, sponsors, and producers. Now it is up to the EFA, in collaboration with movie critics from various nations, to decide on three finalists for each of the prize categories by the end of August. Last year the award for Best European Film went to Il favoloso mondo di Amélie, by the French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. This year´s award ceremony will be held in Rome on December 7, 2002.
