Kick off for Invideo 2003

Instant Images: this is the title for the 13th edition of Invideo, the international exhibition for Video Art and Cinema Beyond. The event is officially starting tomorrow in Milan and goes on until November 9, but it will be inaugurated in Paris tonight. The theme ‘Instantaneous’ will be investigated in its application to today’s world, to individual and collective stories, through the author’s viewpoint, to the past of video art and the instantaneous portraits of projects undertaken by current day artists.

There will be 132 works shown, representing 22 countries, together with a wide selection of classics from the INVIDEO archive and a packed programme of meetings. The opening evening in Paris will be dedicated to Vincent Pluss, who will be presenting the French premiere of the film On dirait le sud, the winner of the 2003 Swiss Film Prize at Soletta.

The opening work in Milan will be L'exil à Sedan, the documentary by Michaël Gaumnitz. Then there are the sections Europe in Shorts: 8 Experimental Films, featuring experimental works by great directors from the old continent; Anarchic Variations, the latest video by the British artistic/performing duo, Liz Aggiss and Billy Cowie; the usual appointment for music videos, featuring Michel Gondry, the author of videos by Bjork, Fatboy Slim, Massive Attack and Daft Punk; a meeting with Paolo Rosa who will be presenting the interactive work Nodi del Mediterraneo done by Studio Azzurro. In fact, there will be 50 works by international video artists shown during the course of the whole event.
