06/11/2003 - The 24th edition of the Virton European Festival starts today with the film by Samuel Benchetrit, Janis and John starring Christophe Lambert and Marie Trintignant. The whole event is directed by André Cadet, and it features a wide overview this year’s the best European films. These include Kitchen Stories by Bent Hamer (Norway), Good Bye Lenin! [trailer] by Wolfgang Becker (Germany), In This World by Michael Winterbottom (Britain), Mondays in the Sun [trailer] by Fernando Leon de Aranoa (Spain), The Story of Marie and Julien by Jacques Rivette (France), Dogville [trailer] by Lars von Trier (Denmark), Lilja 4-ever [trailer] by Lukas Moodysson (Sweden), The Sea by Baltasar Kormàkur (Iceland) and the Italian film event of the year, The Best of Youth by Marco Tullio Giordana.
ON November 9, the whole days programming will be set aside for Belgium cinema with screenings of Le Tango des Rashevski by Sam Garbarski, J'ai toujours voulu être une sainte by Geneviève Mersch and L’autre by Benoît Mariage. The festival will be closed by the film by Louis-Pascal Couvelaire, Michel Vaillant.
