Tango & football in cinemas

This week sees the release of two domestic films in Belgium. Sam Garbarski, the Belgium director known for his funny short films (La Dinde, La vie, la mort, le foot and Merry Christmas, Rachid), has now made his first feature length film, Le Tango des Rashevski, a comedy that was presented at the Namur Festival in October. It is produced by Diana Elbaum (Entre Chien et Loup) with Archipel 35 (France) and Samsa Film (Luxembourg), from a screenplay by Philippe Blasband. It’s the story of the vicissitudes of a Jewish family after the death of their grandmother. The cast includes Hippolyte Girardot, Ludmila Mikael, Jonathan Zaccai, Michel Jonasz, Daniel Mesguich, Nathan Cogan and Tania Garbarski. The film is being released on 12 screens, distributed by ABC.

After the amazing success of the Flemish Film Team Spirit, and the TV series it inspired, the director Jan Verheyen is back in cinemas with Team Spirit 2. The screenplay, written by Dimitri Leue and Jan Verheyen, continues the story of the amateur football team, Eendracht Vooruit. This time, the players’ friendship has to bear up to the test of their new roles as fathers. The cast stars Tom Van Landuyt, Michaël Pas, Axel Daeseleire, Geert Hunaerts, Mathias Sercu and Dimitri Leue. Team Spirit 2 is produced by Dirk Impens and the director. It is being distributed by Kinepolis Film Distribution, and will be released in 28 cinemas.
