and Salvador Allende, a feature film and a documentary, will be object of study during a seminar named “European Films Crossing Borders”, to take place in Berlin on February 8 and 9.

25 young professional of the audiovisual industry will attend this practical and theoretical workshop, organised by the Sociedad General de Autores y Editores (SGAE). The event, which also takes place each year during the film festivals of San Sebastian, Cannes and Karlovy Vary aims at demonstrating how to reach higher levels of exportation for European films
Several information on both subvention and promotion of a film in the festivals’ circuit, details on support mechanisms to exportation and other technical knowledge will be shared during the 2 days seminar. The analysis of two recent cases of films crossing borders are also part of the programme.
Salvador Allende by Patricio Guzman is the prototype of a well succeeded co production between four European States (Belgium, France, Germany and Spain) and two Latin-American countries (Mexico and Chile). The documentary, which premiered out of competition in the last Cannes Film Festival while the Croisette’s attention was focused on another documentary - Michael Moore’s Farenheit 9/11 - might benefit from the new wave of audience’s interest for a film genre usually forgotten in the big screens.
The Sea Inside, the award feature film by Alejandro Amenabar, was seen by 4.000.000 moviegoers only in Spain, since it premiered in September 2004. The movie, based on the real story of a man fighting for the right to die with dignity, will open in several European screens this month. Its potential of exportation risks, however, to increase if The Sea Inside wins the Oscar for the best foreign film, next February 27.
