Four Aces for Olé

by

Valeria Golino, Gérard Depardieu, Gad Elmaleh, and Sabine Azema: that is the casting of only one film, Olé, Florence Quentin’s second feature, which promises to be a very good quality comedy. This ARP Sélection production with a 13,5-million-euro budget (thanks to the participation of Canal + and TF1) will start shooting next Monday in Paris, to later move to Spain (probably Madrid). It will be completed on the 6th of June. The story involves two couples and their mishappenings. Gad Elmaleh plays Ramon, a driver and general task man married to a Spanish cook (Valeria Golino) who works for François (Gérard Depardieu), the wealthy boss of a spectacle and glasses business, and his wife (Sabine Azéma). The film lies on the classical pattern which consists in putting together people from very different social backgrounds. It bears the director’s touch, the sarcastic humour already present in her previous works.

For a long time, Florence Quentin was Étienne Chatiliez’s script-writer, with, amongst others, La vie est un long fleuve tranquille (1988 – Cesar of the Best Script), Tatie Danièle (1990), and Le bonheur est dans le pré (1995). Florence Quentin started directing in 2001 with J’ai Faim, while she kept writing for other directors such as Diane Kurys (Je reste!, 2004) for example. Olé really widens her perspectives as a director, since it involves star actors and a budget which, had the film been made in 2004, would have been amongst the 20 most expensive. It is also a dare for ARP Sélection which will release very soon, on the 23d, its latest production, Les mots bleus by Alain Corneau, and is also working on François Dupeyron [+see also:

’s next movie, adapted from Journey to the End of the Night by Louis-Ferdinand Céline. Olé itself will be released in 2006, in Spring.
