Ken Loach makes Irish Civil war film

Veteran British director Ken Loach is going to set his new film The Wind That Shakes The Barley during the Irish Civil War in the early 1920s. The story written by Loach’s usual collaborator Paul Laverty will focus on one of the Irish Guerilla units known as the “flying columns”. The film is a European co-production between Sixteen Films in the UK - the company founded in 2002 by Loach and his usual producer Rebecca O’Brien-, EMC Asset Management in Germany, Element Films in Ireland, Bianca Films/ Bim Distribuzione in Italy and Tornasol Films in Spain. The film was just awarded 250,000€ from the German regional film fund Filmstiftung NRW. Ken Loach’s previous film Ae Fond Kiss [+see also:

was also written by Paul Laverty and co-produced by the same European partners. The Wind That Shakes The Barley will start shooting in Cork next May.
