EFA takes a Roman Holiday

by

- Wim Wenders will celebrate European Film's finest in Rome on December 6 and 7

«We couldn't think of a more appropriate place to celebrate European cinema than Rome,» said Wim Wenders at the press conference for the forthcoming European Film Awards scheduled for December 6 and 7 in Rome. "The Eternal City is the quintessence of movie-making landmarks, a source of unforgettable images where cinema was reinvented and rejuvenated,» said the president of EFA.
The awards are assigned by a jury of 1,500 European directors, producers, writers, actors and filmgoers who whittled down the 40 nominations to a final list of just 16. The event will be broadcast live by the Italian broadcaster, RAI. Past winners include Lars von Trier, Peter Cattaneo, Roberto Benigni, Pedro Almodòvar, and Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
Wenders, who is currently making a documentary about Blues, produced by Martin Scorsese is optimistic about the future of European film: «Diversity is the strength of European cinema. The industry is constantly evolving in terms of production and creativity, something European audiences appreciate by voting with their feet.»
The EFA event also includes a series of round-table discussions, meetings and conferences on issues like Schools and Cinema: "It is our responsibility to encourage our youth to develop a taste for cinema and make the right choices in the jungle of images and virtual worlds they are presented with,» said the German director.
