Leigh returns to Edinburgh

- The English director, a past winner of this festival with Topsy Turvy, presents All or nothing, first seen in Cannes

The 55th Edinburgh Film Festival, scheduled for August 14-25 - is an important part of that city´s annual arts festival traditionally held every August. Directed for the first time by Shane Danielson, the programme will be announced during the July 10 press conference.
What is known is that it includes a number of British premieres including Mike Leigh´s All or nothing - first presented in Cannes, Gary Winick´s Sundance-winning Tadpole, Roger Mitchell´s Changing Lanes and Argentina´s Academy Award-nominated The Son of the Bride by Juan Jose Campanella. The line up also includes a Czech film, Autumn Spring by Vladimir (Angel Exit, Prague Stories and America) Michalek and starring Vlastimil Brodsky, the award-winning Czech actor who starred in the original 1974 Jacob, the Liar (later remade into a vehicle for Robin Williams). Autumn Spring surprised everyone by becoming one of Spain´s top ten best-performing films this year and was seen by over 1.5m people Iberians. To date, the rights have been sold to Germany (Movienet), Italy (Medusa), Belgium and Luxemburg (les Films de l´Elysée) as well as Latin America, Greece, Turkey, Israel and Portugal.
Filmgoers will also delight in seeing Working Title´s delightful new romantic comedy, The Guru directed by Daisy von Scherler Mayer and starring Heather Graham, Jimi Mistry and Marisa Tomei, as well as Philip Noyce´s Rabbit-proof fence with Kenneth Branagh. One of France´s hit films of the year, François Ozon´s 8 Women starring Fanny Ardant and Catherine Deneuve will also have its British premiere in Scotland.
The Scottish event also includes a celebration of Japanese director Kon Ichikawa, and a retrospective of Swedish films of the 1960s.
