by Fabien Lemercier
03/10/2005 - On Saturday, the first feature by Francesco Munzi, Saimir [trailer], won the Grand Prix at the 23rd edition of the Annecy Italian Film Festival. The director succeeds previous winners such as Paolo Vari and Antonio Bocola (Fame chimica), Michelangelo Frammartino (Il dono [trailer]), Daniele Vicari (Velocita massima [trailer]) and Vincenzo Marra (Tornando a casa). Interpreted by Mishel Manoku, Xhevdet Ferri, Anna Ferruzzo and Lavinia Guglielman, Saimir was produced by Orisa Produzioni with the help of the Italian Minister of Culture. International sales are being handled by Adriana Chiesa Enterprises. Worth noting, too, that Francesco Munzi was also honoured by the Annecy jury with the Cicae (International Confederation of Art-house and Experimental Cinema) prize.
The other big winner at the festival is also a first feature: E se domani... by Giovanni La Parola (produced by I.T.C. Movie) which won the Special Jury Prize and which scooped all the acting prizes with Sabrina Impacciatore as best actress and the duo Paolo Kessisoglu - Luca Bizzari won the male competition . Elsewhere, the documentary by Stefano Rulli, Un silencio particolare (Paneikon production), which has already won the best film prize at the recent David award picked up two special mentions at Annecy from both the official jury and by Cicae. Finally, the public prize went to Alla luce del sole by Roberto Faenza, produced by Jean Vigò Italia and sold internationally by British outfit The Works.
