IFTA 2005 nominations announced

Anthony Byrne’s Short Order and Fintan Connolly’s Trouble With Sex received the most nominations (8 each) for this year’s Irish Film and Television Awards that will take place on November 5 in Dublin.

Byrne and Connolly have been short listed in the Best director category alongside renowned photographer turned filmmaker Perry Ogden for his festival favourite Pavee Lackeen [+see also:

Trouble With Sex made under the Irish Film Board’s low budget initiative, will also compete against Pavee Lackeen in the Best film category against Terry Loane’s directorial debut Mickybo & Me, Pearse Elliott’s The Mighty Celt and Gillies Mackinnon’s Tara Road.

The Beakthrough Talent Award sponsored for the second year running by the Irish Film Board(IFB) and the Northern Ireland Film & TV Commission (NIFTC) will be fought between Perry Ogden, Terry Loane, Daniel O’Hara for his short film Fluent Dysphasia and Martin McDonagh for his 30 minute piece Six Shooter already voted Best First Film at the Cork Film Festival.

Top Irish male talent short listed for Best Actor of the year include Liam Neeson for Kinsey, Gabriel Byrne for Wah Wah, Aidan Quinn for Conviction and Cillian Murphy for Red Eye. And among the four female leads that will compete for the Best Actress Award are Andrea Corr for The Boys & Girls From County Clare and Deirde O’Kane for Boy Eats Girl.
