Absent for six years from the bill of the Sundance Film Festival (19 - 29 January), when La caravane du sel au Tibet (Ulrike Koch, 1998) and L’amour, l’argent, l’amour (Philip Gröning, 2001) were screened, Swiss cinema returns in force to Park City (Utah) with four films retained among the sixteen documentaries in the international competition: The Giant Buddhas by Christian Frei (Christian Frei Filmproduktionen), Silver Dove at the last Leipzig Festival, Angry Monk – Reflections on Tibet by Luc Schaedler (Angry Monk Productions), Das kurze Leben des José Antonio Gutierrez by Heidi Specogna (PS Film) which, having its world première, recounts the tragic fate of a young Guatemalan enrolled in the US army to obtain an American passport and died in Iraq, and the German- Swiss co-production Die grosse Stille (Ventura Film) by German director Philip Gröning.
