10 Jussi nominations for Frozen Land

Aku Louhimies’s Frozen Land received the warmest support from Filmiaura, the association of over 230 Finnish film professionals overseeing the annual Finnish Oscars or ‘Jussi’ Awards. The realistic depiction of contemporary Finland, which was the biggest local hit in Finland last year with over 170,000 admissions, is nominated in ten categories including Best Film and Best Direction. The film is produced by Markus Selin’s Solar Films and sold internationally by Birch Tree Entertainment.

Dome Karukoski’s Beauty And The Bastard, another depiction of today’s Finnish youth produced by Helsinki Filmi, is the second most nominated film (8) followed by Kari Paljakka’s drama For The Living And The Dead and Klaus Härö’s WWII drama Mother Of Mine each nominated six times including for Best Direction and Best Actress (respectively Katja Kukkola and Maria Lundqvist).

Petri Kotwica’s drama Homesick produced by Making Movies is nominated four times notably for Best Actor (Julius Lavonen) and the football comedy FC Venus by Joona Tena -the current N°1 local film with almost 110,000 admissions- is nominated twice for Best Actor in a supporting role (Sulevi Peltola) and Best Actress in a supporting role (Laura Malmivaara).
The final winners will be announced in Helsinki on February 5, 2006.
