Jordan honoured at Irish pre-Oscar event

On March 2, just three days before the Oscars ceremony, Jodie Foster will present Irish writer/director Neil Jordan with an honorary award at the inaugural edition in Los Angeles of Oscar Wilde: Honouring Irish Writing in Film, organised by the US-Ireland Alliance. The Hollywood star will play the lead in Jordan’s next project, The Brave One (scheduled to shoot next summer for Warner Bros), as a woman recovering from a brutal attack who sets out on a dark physical journey for revenge and justice.

Jordan won an Oscar for the original screenplay of The Crying Game in 1992. His latest feature, Breakfast On Pluto [+see also:

, which just screened in Berlin’s Panorama section, is currently playing in the UK and Ireland, where it was distributed by Pathe and has grossed over £811,000 from 21 screens.

At the pre-Oscars event, Irish filmmaker Jim Sheridan and fellow film composer David Holmes will also receive honorary awards from Anjelica Houston and Adrian Dunbar, respectively. "This Irish party in Oscar week is attracting over 300 leading players from Hollywood", said Naoise Barry, Film Commissioner of the Irish Film Board and co-organiser of the event with a handful of other sponsors, including Walt Disney Studios. "It’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the depth of talent in the Irish film industry and highlight the recent improvements to Section 481 (see news Improvements to Section 481)", she added.

Key industry people and talent expected at the party include Cillian Murphy (the star of Breakfast On Pluto), Daryl Hannah, Dennis Hopper, Rachel Griffiths, Dick Cook (chairman of Walt Disney Studios), Tom Bernard and Michael Barker (co-presidents of Sony Pictures Classics) and Mark Zoradi (Buena Vista International president).
