Over 220 screenings in Cambridge

Since last Thursday, the 26th Cambridge Film Festival is filling the streets and three cinema venues of the world renowned university town with film fans and professionals, invited to view some 200 films –classics as well as recent quality international productions. Last year, as many as 57 films had their UK premieres at the festival and this new edition is once again filled with great discoveries and opportunities to meet with the films’ stars and directors.

Last Friday, German star actor Moritz Bleibtreu attended a Q&A session following the UK premiere of Oskar Roehler’s Atomised [+see also:

(English title for The Elementary Particles) and on Sunday Luc Besson honoured the festival with his presence at the premiere of his film Angel A [+see also:

(which will open nationwide on July 28 through Optimum Releasing), as part of a Special Season dedicated to the French writer/director/producer.

by French filmmaker Christian Volckman; German film Berlin Stories, introduced by one of its directors Irene von Alberti as part of a tribute to New German Cinema; and Gypo, the first official UK Dogma film presented to Cambridge audiences by its filmmaker Jan Dunn and producer Elaine Wickham.

Tomorrow (July 12), Mike Figgis will be part of a panel discussion on eroticism on the screen, illustrated by the programmes of ‘Through the Keyhole: Erotic Shorts’, which includes Figgis’ own short film Tied Up at The Office alongside ‘A Brief History of Erotic Cinema’.

Another section, entitled ‘Frightfest’, will screen four scary movies, including Frostbite [+see also:

, the first Swedish vampire film, directed by Anders Banke.

The festival will end on July 16 with the UK premiere of Terry Gilliam’s Tideland [+see also:
