Lucky Red has indeed the luck to be the Italian distributor of Still Life by Jia Zhang-ke, the "surprise movie" of the Venice film festival which ended up winning the Golden Lion.

, by the African director Mahamat-Saleh Haroun (Grand Prix of the Jury), from the French sales agency Pyramide. Lucky Red and Pyramide also sealed a deal on On Dirait Que by Francoise Marie, a documentary which should be ready for the next Cannes Film Festival.

As for the winner of the Critics' Week, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, directed by Dito Montiel and produced by Sting and Trudy Styler, it will be distributed by Mikado Film . This Italian distributor also took advantage of the Venice FF to buy the rights of the documentary The U.S. vs. John Lennon, in competition in the Horizons section, as well as those of The Hottest State by Ethan Hawke (Horizons) and Retribution by Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Out of Competition /Mezzanotte).

01 Distribution, distribution arm of Rai Cinema, secured an exclusive distribution contract for the next three years concerning all the films produced by the Weinstein brothers, including Bobby by Emilio Estevez, in competition in Venice. According to Giancarlo Leone, Rai Cinema's administration executive, this will allow 01 to distribute eight films a year at the cinema, on home video and on free TV — Weinstein Company keeps the pay-TV rights. Amongst the titles included in this agreement, this is also Sicko, a new research-documentary by Michael Moore exploring the question of health in the USA.

Finally, Lady Film took advantage of the festival to announce that Vier Minuten was amongst their latest acquisitions. This film by the German filmmaker Chris Kraus is a Kordes & Kordes Film GmbH production.
