Lionel Baier back in Montréal

in 2004, the Montreal Nouveau Cinéma Festival is presenting the director’s second feature in international competition at its 35th edition, which is taking place October 18-28.

Thick as Thieves (Saga Production) is a road movie in which the young Swiss director, who stars alongside Natacha Koutchoumov, sets out on a search for his distant Polish origins.

The film will also screen shortly at the 12th Tout Ecran International Cinema and Television Festival (October 30-November 5) in Geneva, and furthermore compete next month at the Seville and Mannheim-Heidelberg film festivals.

The documentary Angry Monk by Luc Schaedler (Angry Monk Productions) is also programmed for the Montreal Festival, which is hosting a tribute to the great Swiss director Daniel Schmid, with the screening of La Paloma (1974), Tosca’s Kiss (1984) and The Last Days of Switzerland (1999). Schmid passed away on August 6.
