COMPETITION Europe

Nisi Masa launches Survive Style

by

European network NISI MASA (sponsored by directors Emir Kusturica, Dominik Moll, Dani Levy and Fernando Trueba) has announced a new project: a competition of shorts entitled Survive Style, open to all European directors aged 18-30, EU nationals and directors from south-eastern Europe, Turkey and countries in the Caucasus region.

Directors have until December 15, 2006 to submit their shorts, which should be no longer than 10 minutes (fiction, documentary, animated film or experimental) and explore the theme of survival of young people in a rapidly changing Europe, where the impact of globalisation and migratory flows are experienced as either opportunities or constraints.

What is the impact of these profound changes on the personal and professional lives of young Europeans? How do they see their futures? These questions and more will provide space for debate and creativity. The competition resumes on March 13-17, 2007 in Vienna, Austria, where young directors from 30 European countries whose shorts have been selected will come together for a week of workshops and meetings with film industry professionals.

The event, organised by NISI MASA (see interview with General Manager Mattthieu Darras) and backed by the Council of Europe, has as much in common with a film festival (awards at hand) as it does with a real conference on the cinematic expression of the survival of young people in Europe and migratory flows.

Rules and registration form are available on the NISI MASA web site.
