- For the first time in a decade, German audiences have rediscovered the joys of going to the cinema... and seeing some great German films too

The German federal film board (FFA) made available its official analysis of German box office results for the year 2001. For the first time in ten years, cinema attendance in Germany increased by 16.7%, registering a total of 177.9 million cinemaviewers. With a turnover of 987.2 million €, the German box office reached a plus of over 20%.
These results were attributed to a series of national productions, that draw German audiences to the cinema theatres. For the first time in years and with more than 10.5 million admissions, a German film Der Schuh des Manitu (Manitou´s shoe) topped the annual box office. Eight more German productions, including four children´s films, drew in audiences of over one million viewers.
