(see news), two recent films produced by Lisbon-based company Clap Filmes, were selected to participate in the upcoming Rotterdam International Film Festival (January 24-February 4).

Body Rice, released locally last week by Atalanta Filmes, is the first feature film by 32-year old lawyer-turned-filmmaker Vieira da Silva, who had previously directed documentaries on prominent Portuguese artistic groups and twentieth century movements. The film follows the experiences of Katrin, a German teenager, who is sent in the 1980s to the south of Portugal as part of an experimental re-educational programme.

After winning a special mention at last year’s Locarno Film Festival (see news), Body Rice will now be shown in the Cinema of the Future: Sturm und Drang section.

Screening in the section Cinema of the World: Time & Tide, Trance continues its journey throughout international film festivals, after a successful debut last year at Cannes, where the performance of its lead actress, Ana Moreira, was unanimously applauded by the critics (see news).
