05/02/2007 - Joachim Trier’s acclaimed Norwegian directorial debut Reprise [trailer, film focus] has been sold by Nordisk Film International Sales to 13 territories, including new UK distribution outfit Diffusion Pictures.
Since being launched at Karlovy Vary last July, where it won the Best Director Award and Don Quixote Prize, Reprise [trailer, film focus] has been a festival hit, winning several awards along the way, including the Discovery Award at Toronto.
Nordisk Film International Sales has sold it to the Benelux (A-Film), Austria (Filmladen), Germany (MFA), Denmark (Sunrise Film Distribution), Hungary (Budapest Film), Romania (Independenta Films), Bulgaria (Vadi Van Kris), Poland (Best Film/Eurocan) Latvia (Baltic Films) and Estonia (Estin Film).
The Norwegian release last September was handled by Columbia Tri Star/Nordisk Film.
Nick Crossley, head of the new London-based Diffusion Pictures, acquired the rights from Nordisk’s sales executive Sanne Arloe, commenting: "We are thrilled by the acquisition of this wonderfully directed debut. This confirms Diffusion’s commitment to backing exciting, refreshing new talent".
Trier added: "I am thrilled that Reprise [trailer, film focus] is getting distributed in the UK. I have lived in London for seven years and got my education at the National Film & TV School, so it means a lot to me".
The director has described his debut, which he co-wrote with Eskil Vogt, as a "playful film about friendship, madness and creativity, love and sorrow, great ambitions and the often unpleasant clash between youthful presumptions and reality".
It recently screened at the Rotterdam Film Festival, where a youth jury gave it the Movie Squad Award, deeming it the best film among the 22 entries in official competition.
