Boyle begins scaling Ponte Tower in international co-production

by

A planned co-production project between the UK and South Africa is in the first stage of development with Lottery funding from the UK Film Council’s Development Fund. The film is thriller Ponte Tower by UK director Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Trainspotting).

Loosely based on the book by German novelist Norman Ohler and shot entirely within South Africa’s infamous Ponte Tower, Boyle and writer Michael Thomas (The Hunger, Scandal) are developing a gripping thriller set beneath the largest illuminated Coca-Cola sign in the world.

The tallest skyscraper on the African continent, which initially symbolised white affluence, Johannesburg's Ponte Tower came to represent change and upheaval in South Africa as desegregation spread slowly but steadily throughout the country.
