Americans love French films

French films continue to do excellent business in America and their popularity amongst major north-American buyers at the recent Venice and Toronto film festivals only confirms that. In Venice, Pathé International sold the north-American distribution rights of Patrice Leconte’s L’Homme du train to Paramount Classics while in Toronto, StudioCanal was submerged by a bidding war for Danièle Thompson’s Décalage horaire(Time Zone) starring Juliette Binoche and Jean Reno, that was won by Miramax. Also during the Canadian event IFC Films bought up Jean-Pierre Limosin’s Novo and Lions Gate grabbed Gaspar Noè’s Irreversibile.
During the next few months some fifteen recent Gallic productions will be released in America with Yvan Attal’s latest film, Ma femme est une actrice (My Wife is An Actress), starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, currently enjoying a huge success at the American box office.
