PRODUCTION Denmark

- Despite the European Com-munity’s funding cuts, Project FilmFyn for a “film production city” continues

Even though the funding from the EU was half of what was expected, regional authorities have decided to go ahead with the FilmFyn project in Denmark, dedicating a whole town to film production in one of the remoter areas of Denmark, similar to Sweden’s Trollhattan (sometimes called Manhattan). Now that it is clear that the EU will only support this project by chipping in a million and a half (201.911 euros) for maintaining the staff, the regions in Denmark are optimistic and have put up a plan hopefully attracting the big production companies.
According to the plan, about 20 million KR (2.692.152 euro) will be invested over the next four years in five to six films. This innovation will also benefit the regions because for every 100 KR spent on production, an additional 250 KR will go towards local development, creating about 400 new jobs.
The first production is already on the table, with 450.000 KR 60.573 euro) coming from the region of Faaborg. Thomas Jensen will direct the stars Mads Mikkelsen and Nikolj Lie Kaas in a film titled De gronne slagtere.
