Less money for actors
by a.t.
FAPAE- the Spanish audiovisual producers’ association has asked Iberian actors to accept less money. “Actors’ salaries are going sky high while box office takings have not risen for five years” said a clearly worried FAPAE president Eduardo Campoy.
Campoy added that postproduction sector employees and film crew guilds accepted a 20 per cent wage cut and continued, “We are having a hard time convincing televisions to pay more for broadcast rights. The TV companies are trying to pay less at a time when investment levels in the film production sector are unvaried.”
Predictably, the actors’ representatives begged to differ and their scepticism on listening to Campoy’s requests was evident as they firmly refuted accusations that the size of their salaries was the cause of the current crisis in Iberian cinema.
The issue will be re-examined in a second meeting that is scheduled for October.
