Mediaset interested in Medusa

by

"This kind of acquisition makes sense", said Mediaset President Fedele Confalonieri when asked by a market analyst about the television group’s possible buyout of production and distribution company Medusa Film.

Confalonieri, who met today with members of the financial community to illustrate 2006 results, added: "We’d have to see the kind of conditions we would accept, also because it is owned by our main shareholder [the Berlusconi family], so we will be very cautious and transparent".

"Cinema and fiction TV are very similar,” explained Confalonieri, who believes that "viewer success comes from Italian films and not from those overly used American titles, you have to make choices”.

Vice-president of Mediaset Pier Silvio Berlusconi further added that "the Italian film industry is very interesting and important to us if we are to attain a greater quantity of content".
