Thatcher follows in Queen’s footsteps

), Pathé Productions, the BBC and DJ Films have commissioned a screenplay on former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and her battle to save her career in the 17 days preceding the 1982 Falklands War.

The proposed film – a “revealing and intimate portrait” of Thatcher, according to Pathé – will be written by Brian Fillis from an original idea he conceived with award-winning UK producer Damian Jones (Kidulthood [+see also:

The 17-day period is relevant because it was the duration of the British fleet’s voyage to the Falklands, during which time Thatcher had to overcome private fears and political opposition to wage a war that is still today seen by many as being controversial and even unnecessary.

Jones will produce the film and Pathé Distribution will release it in the UK while worldwide sales are being handled by Pathé Pictures International.
