Mozart in China begins lensing


Shooting on Mozart in China, a three-way co-production between Germany (Kick Film, Bayerischen Rundfunk), Austria (Extrafilm) and China and helmed by Salzburg director Bernd Neuburger, begins today on the Chinese island of Hainan after some short scenes shot in Vienna.

Scripted by Nadja Seelich, a regular partner of Neuburger – Jonathana und die Hexe (1986) and Summer with the Ghosts (2003) – the children’s feature is the story of two school friends – one from Salzburg, like Mozart, and the other Chinese – who both discover what it means to be a foreigner in each other’s country.

The team will work in China until the end of April and resume shooting late June-early July in Austria.

Post-production will take place in Vienna and Munich and is anticipated to finish in the autumn.
