at the International Women's Film Festival (April 17-22), formed from the recent fusion of the Dortmund Femme Totale Festival and the Cologne Féminale, which the two cities will take turns to host from this year. This is the second year that the €25,000 prize has been awarded.

Red Road – which already has a number of prizes under its belt, including the 2006 Cannes Grand Jury Prize and the 2007 BAFTA for Best Debut Film – is the story of a CCTV operator in Glasgow confronted with her past through the eye of the camera. The jury admired "the rare talent with which the film unites several genres: the thriller, the social drama and love story".

(Slovenia/Lithuania/Estonia).

The other festival competition is aimed at talented female cinematographers. This year's Camera Award went to Ute Freund, who was presented €5,000 for her work in Rudolf Thome’s You Told Me, You Love Me.

The International Women’s Film Festival screened over a hundred films to several thousand vistors who also came to see a music focus featuring performances by women directors, along with workshops, discussions and masterclasses organised by and for directors and musicians, live performances and a children’s programme.
