Winner of the Swiss Film Prize in January, Fredi M. Murer’s film will be released in the US on June 29 by Hollywood outfit Sony Pictures Classics.

The film will then be released in Canada through Mongrel Films for English-speaking territories and through Metropole Films for French-speaking territories.

In the meanwhile, the promotional agency Swiss Films is holding a retrospective in Canada. The event will open with a preview screening of Vitus in the presence of the director at the Cinémathèque québécoise in Montréal (May 30-June 9) and at the Canadian Film Institute in Ottawa (June 1-July 8) and will end this autumn at the Cinémathèque Ontario in Toronto and the Cinémathèque Pacific in Vancouver.

Films selected for the retrospective include Zones(1979), Alpine Fire (1985) and Full Moon (1998), as well as the documentary The Green Mountain (Der grüne Berg, 1990). The Cinémathèque québécoise de Montréal will screen his first shorts and Wir Bergler in der Bergen sind eigentlich nicht schuld, dass wir da sind (1974).
