film profile] (see article) – is currently preparing for this autumn’s shoot of Baby Blues, the third feature by Diane Bertrand after A Saturday on Earth (1996) and The Ring Finger (2005).

The film features France’s Karin Viard (Césars for Best Actress in 1999 and Best Supporting Actress in 2003, recently seen in Catherine Corsini’s Ambitious [+see also:

film profile] and Carine Tardieu’s In Mom's Head) alongside Italian star Stefano Accorsi, starring in yet another French production after Emmanuel Mouret’s Un baiser s'il vous plaît (see news) and Gilles Legrand’s La jeune fille et les loups (see article).

Co-written by Bertrand and Bruno Jap, Baby Blues is a sentimental comedy about professional life and the desire to have children. Alex (Viard) seems to have it all: a successful career and a stable and perfect relationship with Fabrizio (Accorsi). Then she gets offered a job in New York. If she accepts, the likelihood of ever having children becomes impossible for the couple, who never wanted any in the first place.

Wanting to understand the situation, Fabrizio decides to see a psychologist – the same one his partner is seeing, it turns out.

Produced for Move Movie by Blanchard and Bruno Levy, also producers at Ce Qui Me Meut (Cédric Klapisch’s oufit), Baby Blues carries a €5m budget.

The production has already been pre-sold to Canal + and France 2 Cinéma, who are also co-producers. The film begins its eight-week shoot in October 2007 and is scheduled for completion in June 2008.

Negotiations on a 10% Italian co-production are underway, as well as on French distribution and international sales.
