European trio with Loach, Fresnadillo and Delpy
After last week’s influx of European films, today sees three European co-productions arriving in Italian theatres and one director – Ireland’s Neil Jordan – behind Hollywood title The Brave One. Thought the films may be few they offer a wide range of genres and trends.

film profile] by Ken Loach, the latest chapter in a ever-militant film career and a denunciation against capitalism’s ills, in the UK and beyond.
Warmly received at the recent Venice Film Festival, at which Paul Laverty won the Best Screenplay prize, the film was co-produced by the UK (FilmFour and Sixteen Films), Italy (BIM), Germany (EMC Produktion and Filmstiftung Nordrhein-Westfalen), Spain (Tornasol Films) and Poland (SPI International).
Burnt by worse than expected results for Venice titles I’m Not There and The Romance of Astrea and Celadon [+see also:

film profile], BIM will initially release Loach’s film on just 61 screens.
20th Century Fox, however, is distributing Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s 28 Weeks Later [+see also:

film profile] on twice as many screens (120). The sequel to 28 Days Later by Danny Boyle (who here only executive produces) was entrusted to the talented young Spaniard after he previously showed his skills at directing genre films such as Intacto.
Financed by Britain (DNA Films, UK Film Council, Figment Films) and Spain (SOGECINE and Koan Films), the filmmakers are counting on Robert Carlyle to carry the title.

The French actress, who has been living for some time now in the US, returns to the city of lights for a bittersweet portrait of the life of a couple, depicting the difficulties in staying together against the backdrop of one of the most romantic cities in the world.
Screened to success at the Berlin Film Festival, 2 Days in Paris is a co-production between and France (Polaris, Tempête sous un crâne Productions) and Germany (3L Filmproduktion GmbH), made possible by the collaboration of international distributor Rezo Films. DNC is releasing the film in Italy on 20 screens.
