Baltic Event in full swing

One hundred and forty professionals are attending the 6th Baltic Event (BE), held from December 2-6 during the Tallinn Black Night Film Festival.

Major international sales and distribution companies – including Celluloid Dreams, Arte France Cinéma and Nordisk Film International Sales – and festival directors such as Dieter Kosslick (Berlinale) have joined BE Managing Director Riina Sildos for the biggest annual presentation of the latest productions from the Baltic states, Scandinavia, East-Central Europe and Russia.

The busiest days are today and tomorrow with the 3rd Co-production Market platforming 12 projects looking for co-producers and co-financiers. These include the €1.5m Borderline by Croatia’s Ognjen Svilicic (Sorry for Kung Fu); the €1.4m Lonely Planet by one of Estonia’s most established filmmakers, Peeter Simm (Georg [+see also:

); his counterpart Veiko Õunpuu’s follow-up to Autumn Ball [+see also:

, The Temptations of Saint Tony; and the €2m Russian/Estonian The Swan Prince by Kirill Serebrennikov (Playing the Victim).

The previous two editions of the Co-production Market proved highly beneficial to filmmakers such as Cristian Mungiu, whose omnibus project Tales From the Golden Age spawned his Cannes winner 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days [+see also:

Five films are now completed, including Rainer Sarnet’s Where Souls Go (Estonia/Austria) and Algimantas Puipa’s Whisper of Sin (Lithuania), screening as part of Black Night FF and the Baltic Event Screenings, respectively.

Baltic producers are invited to an Industry Day on Wednesday with a presentation of “A Practical Guide to MEDIA Development and MEDIA Distribution” and a lecture by Renate Roginas on “The Art of Negotiating a Co-Production”.

The Baltic Event is organized in partnership with EAVE, the Binger Institute, Film New Europe, the Estonian Film Foundation, the Estonian Ministry of Culture, the Culture Endowment, MEDIA plus, MEDIA Desk Estonia, the National Film Center of Latvia and Nordic-Baltic Film Fund.
