New record for Flemish cinema

With 1.135 million admissions, audience figures for Flemish Belgian cinema have risen 25% compared to 2006 (920,524 admissions) and have beaten the last record to date, of 2003, when The Alzheimer Case [+see also:

film profile], among other films, made it possible for Flemish films to reach audience figures of over one million.

Five Flemish Belgian films attracted more than 100,000 viewers this year. Two films have already exceeded the 200,000 mark: Dominique Deruddere’s Firmin [+see also:

Still showing is this year’s third highest grossing film: Jan Verheyen’s Vermist [+see also:

Also showing is children’s film Plop en de Pinguin by Matthias Temmermans (116,159 admissions), soon to be joined by the latest K3 sequel, K3 en de kattenprins, which will be released on December 19 by Kinepolis Film Distribution. The company will continue its winning streak, as their catalogue includes six of the top ten highest-grossing films in this listing.

Miel Van Hoogenbempt’s A Perfect Match garnered 119,097 admissions, Micha Kamp’s Where Is Winky’s Horse?, another family film, attracted 62,259 viewers and two Flemish New Wave films achieved success internationally and impressed domestic audiences: Felix Von Groeningen’s With Friends Like These [+see also:
