At Night vying for Best Short Film

The Danish short film At Night, directed by Christian E. Christiansen, is one of five titles vying for a 2008 Oscar in the Best Short Film (Live Action) category.

Christiansen has been active in the Danish film industry since 1994. In 2001, he graduated in production from the National Film School of Denmark and went on to produce the 2005 local hit Nynne for Angel Production.

His directorial debut came with the 2006 drama Life Hits [+see also:

, produced by Louise Vesth for Zentropa. At Night is again produced by Zentropa with support from the Danish Film Institute’s New Danish Screen scheme.

Scripted by Christiansen, the story centres on three girls aged18 to 20 who are hospitalized with cancer. All three have not only health problems, but also relationship problems with their nearest and dearest. The girls find a haven in each other's company, where they are free from the fear of death and loneliness.

Last time Denmark won an Oscar for Best Short Film (Live Action) was in 2003 for Martin Strange-Hansen’s This Charming Man (M&M Productions).
