Anima 2008 gets animated

will open the 27th Cartoon and Animated Film Festival, Anima 2008 which will be held from February 1-9 in Brussels and several cities across French-speaking Belgium.

Fear(s) of the Dark, directed by several big names in animated film, is a minority Belgian co-production by La Parti Production. The film will screen out of competition.

The official selection includes both Asian and European titles; four Eastern films and four European co-productions: Nocturna [+see also:

by Spanish directors Victor Maldonado and Adrian Garcia; Magnus Carlsson’s Swedish film Desmond et le Monstre des marais (“Desmond and the Marsh Monster”); French/German/Polish co-production Little King Macius by Sandor Jesse; and Italian co-production El Arca by Argentine director Juan Pablo Buscarini.

by the Guillaume brothers; and Borislav Sajtinac’s Le Tueur de Montmartre (“The Montmatre Killer”).

Anima is hosting a showcase of young German animated film talent, a panorama of Polish animated film, a homage to the Fleischer Brothers (Popeye, Betty Boop) and, as always, a Great Animation Workshop as part of Europalia. In addition, the festival is organising Futuranima - a series of professional gatherings involving numerous workshops - to be held from February 7-9.
