British film companies set for Hong Kong push

Film ties between the UK and Hong Kong will receive a massive boost at the Hong Kong Filmart (March 17-20), where 134 UK films, including six premieres, will be showcased.

The UK Film Council and UK Trade and Investment are funding a market stand for British companies for the fourth year running at Asia’s biggest film and TV market.

In addition, the Hong Kong International Film Festival will see the premieres of Anand Tucker’s And When Did You Last See Your Father [+see also:

Also for the first time ever, a UK project has been selected to be included in the Asian Film Financing Forum. Bloodline, directed by Richard Jobson (16 Years of Alcohol), is a co-production between the UK’s Independent Film Company and Hong Kong’s Jettone, which produces Wong Kar Wai’s films.

The British film companies participating include Capitol Films, Content Film, Ealing Studios, Independent Film Company, Park Circus Films, ThinkFilm, Olsberg FPI, Scottish Screen, Film London, South East Media and Screen South.

Sarah McKenzie, Senior Executive for Export Development at the UK Film Council said: “The festival, Filmart and the Asian Film Financing Forum provide excellent opportunities for British film companies and organisations to explore and develop relationships with film businesses in Asia so we are delighted to be supported companies in a whole a range of activity in Hong Kong. International links, particularly with the emerging markets in Asia critical for sales companies to grow and develop.”
