German presence a powerhouse at Shanghai

03/06/2008 - Alejandro Cardenas-Amelio’s Argentinean/German co-production Berlin-Buenos Aires will screen in competition at the 11th Shanghai International Film Festival (June 14-22). The film stars Fabian Busch as the son of Argentinean refugees who grows up in Berlin.

For the fourth consecutive year, German Films is organising a Focus Germany in the festival's official programme and bringing directors to present their films to Chinese audiences.

The sidebar will open with Tom Zenker’s Der Blinde Fleck and includes Robert Thalheim’s And Along Come Tourists [trailer], Jan Bonny’s Counterparts [trailer], Til Schweiger’s Rabbit Without Ears [trailer], Bully Herbig’s Lissi and the Wild Emperor, Martin Waltz’s Melodies of Spring, Martin Gypkens’ Nothing but Ghosts [trailer], Marco Kreuzpaintner’s Trade [trailer] and Family Rules [trailer] by Marc Meyer.

To the Limit [trailer] by Pepe Danquart will feature in the Sports section. Panorama will show another seven German films, among them Lola Randl’s In Between Days, Jan Schütte’s Love Comes Lately [trailer], Peter Kahane’s Red Zora, Wolf Wolff’s Virus Undead and the short film Appassionata by Mirko Echghi-Ghamsari.

Producer Ulrich Felsberg will also be on the festival's international jury.

This year there will also be a partnership with Swiss Films for the Focus on Female Filmmakers workshop while European Film Promotion will back the presence of European films at Shanghai with the Sales Support Program.

German Films will also be present with an umbrella stand at the festival's film market, held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, which several German sales companies will attend.
