After screening in the Directors’ Fortnight, three awards (including the Europa Cinemas Label Award, which should lead to wide distribution in Europe, and the Fipresci Prize), and an enthusiastic critical reception, Benelux Film Distribution (BFD) have decided to increase publicity for the film and release it on an initial 10 screens, instead of the six-print run that had previously been planned.

Alongside the giant releases Sex and the City and Diary of the Dead, two other European titles are hitting screens, including Spanish film Modesty [+see also:

, which won the Golden Olive Tree at the latest Lecce Festival (Italy) and scooped two Best Actress Awards at Malaga and Karlovy Vary for Elvira Minguez. This debut feature by the Ulloa brothers is adapted from the eponymous novel by young Peruvian-born writer Santagio Roncagliolo.

Finally, this week’s line-up also includes the documentary Calle Santa Fe, which caused a sensation when it screened in Un Certain Regard at Cannes 2007. Director Carmen Castillo looks back at the murder of her husband, who was an opponent of Pinochet’s regime in the 1970s. Thirty years later, she reflects on the consequences of these acts of resistance.

The film – co-produced by Les Films d’Ici (France), Les Films de la Passerelle (Belgium) and Parox (Chile) – received backing from the CNC and the Film and Audiovisual Centre of the French Community of Belgium.
